General information about aluminium profiles

Aluminium sections are suitable for a wide range of applications - from aircraft parts to conservatories. Because: aluminium sections offer all the positive properties of the material, such as corrosion and weather resistance as well as almost unlimited formability. This explains the increasing popularity of aluminium sections.

Aluminium sections are available in the Kloeckner online shop in various dimensions. In addition to these products, you can also buy aluminium sheets and aluminium plates online from Kloeckner.

How are aluminium sections produced?

Aluminium sections are produced by extrusion. The aluminium billet used as the starting material must first be heated to the forming temperature of approx. 500°C. The aluminium billet is then pressed into the aluminium section. The billet is then pressed through a die. This determines the final external shape of the section. The resulting aluminium sections must then be cut to the desired length. Finally, the aluminium sections are cooled down and hardened.

After the extrusion process, the surface can be treated. On the one hand, the aluminium section can be anodised. With this method, the surface is given the desired properties by electrolytic oxidation, such as a certain colour or hardness. On the other hand, a powder coating is possible. First, an oxide layer must be removed. The aluminium section is then ground to slightly roughen the surface for the actual coating.

In the next step, the paint powder is electrostatically charged and applied to the aluminium section with a powder gun. At temperatures between 140 and 200°C, the coating is baked. The powder coating can be used to create various colours and surface effects, such as matt, glossy or metallic.

Where are aluminium sections used?

Automotive industry
Due to their low weight, aluminium sections are often installed in the body. They are also used as guide rails in windows.

Aircraft construction
Aluminium sections are primarily processed into chassis parts, wheel rims and guide rails for windows.

Mechanical engineering
Aluminum sections are used, for example, as guide rails.

Construction industry
Aluminium sections are used in the construction industry as substructures or for window construction.

Household
In the sanitary and kitchen sector as well as in furniture production, aluminium sections are used as end strips, butt edges or guide rails. In addition, shower cubicles or shelves can be made from aluminium sections. Outside, the sections are mainly used to build winter gardens and greenhouses.

Exhibition stand construction
Aluminum sections are very popular with booth builders. Exhibition stands made of aluminium sections are easy to transport due to their low weight. With the comparatively light individual parts, the stand can be set up quickly and easily.
