Construction tubes
General information on construction tubes
Pipes are not only suitable for conveying gases and liquids. They can also be used as construction elements and design objects. In the case of steel construction pipes, it is not primarily the suitability as a transport line that is important, but rather the static values and the material quality suitable for steel structures.
The favourable mechanical and static properties of steel and stainless steel construction pipes include high bending, tensile, compression, torsion and buckling resistance. This makes them particularly suitable for large loads. Despite their high stability, structural tubes have a comparatively low dead weight. They are therefore indispensable for lightweight steel construction in particular.
Construction tubes are produced as round, rectangular or square tubes with a matt or smooth polished surface. Due to their mechanical properties, the large selection of materials and the wide range of dimensions, they are used in many industries. Depending on the design, construction tubes also comply with tight dimensional tolerances and are easy to weld.
They are mainly used to transmit mechanical forces. They are used as railings, internal and external poles, masts or posts. They are also important as design elements.
It is also used in the furniture industry for kitchen elements and in medicine.
How are construction tubes manufactured?
Construction tubes are always welded in a longitudinal seam design. Flat products such as cold-rolled or hot-rolled strip steel, hot-rolled wide strip or hot-rolled heavy plate are used as the starting material. How construction tubes are manufactured also depends on the desired diameter and wall thicknes
The manufacturing process always begins with the moulding of a slotted tube. This is followed by the welding process, in which HF welding (high-frequency welding) is used. Further straightening and cutting to length give construction tubes their final shape.
Where are construction tubes used?
In many industries, construction tubes play a load-bearing role and support heavy loads. This makes them suitable for numerous applications:
- Railing construction
- Steel construction and structural steel engineering
- Conveyor technology
- Textile machinery
- Agricultural machinery
- Offshore wind industry
- Offshore constructions in the oil and gas industry
- Road and rail vehicles
- Furniture industry
- Medical technology
- Shipbuilding
What are the advantages of construction tubes?
Construction tubes have the following favourable properties, which enable them to be used in various areas of application:
- High mechanical strength
- Pressure resistance
- Heat resistance
- Reusability
- Attractive appearance
