General information about standard aluminium profiles

Due to their advantageous material properties, standard aluminium profiles can be used for a wide range of applications.

Aluminium is called the light metal because it has a low density compared to steel. Nevertheless, standard aluminium profiles have high strength and corrosion resistance. They are therefore suitable for use in humid environments. Aluminium owes its resistance to environmental influences on the oxide layer on the surface of the material.

The use of aluminium leads to cost savings, as standard aluminium profiles are easy to form and therefore easy to process. In addition, the material is 100 percent recyclable without loss of quality. During transport, aluminium causes comparatively low emissions due to its low weight. Aluminium is therefore regarded as an environmentally friendly material.

How are standard profiles made of aluminium?

The most frequently used production process for standard aluminium profiles is extrusion. The forming process starts with an aluminium billet heated to approx. 500 °C. The aluminium billet is then pressed into its final shape.

This is pressed through a die, which determines the cross-section of the profile. The resulting standard aluminium profiles are shortened to the required length. The profiles then cool down and harden completely.

Surface treatments can also be applied to change the colour or hardness of the product. Anodizing or powder coating are possible options here.
